Six-week-old, female BALB/c mice were inoculated with virus or diluent. Mice were weighed and observed for clinical signs daily for 29 days. All mice survived. All mice inoculated with virus seroconverted; mock-inoculated mice remained seronegative.

b

Number of mice with ≥5% weight loss.

c

Number of mice with clinical signs, which included ruffled fur, hunching, aggression, “oily” fur, and circling (one mouse). Two mice in wild-type groups still had “oily” fur on day 29.
