Figure 3 (A, B) A plain radiograph and magnetic resonance imaging scan of the same distal interphalangeal joint of a 61‐year‐old woman showing a “seagull‐wing” pattern of bone erosion. This image suggests that seagull‐wing erosions have a different mechanism that is not directly linked to the position of ligaments. Instead, the erosions appear at sites of prominent cartilage loss with bone remodelling, with bone loss on the distal part of the joint and bone growth proximally that abuts distally, giving the radiographic erosion appearance.
