^aE. coli MG1655 cells were grown in LB, collected in the exponential (Expo) phase (OD₆₀₀ = 0.5) or stationary (Stat) phase (8 h), and plated on LBA or grown on LB. Growth on plates was followed as described in Materials and Methods. Experiments were repeated at least four times, and standard deviations were always below 10%.
