Monocytes from patients with advanced tuberculosis (A-TB) modulated interferon (IFN)-γ⁺ production by CD3^– CD56⁺ cells. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and monocyte-depleted mononuclear cells (Mo-depleted) from three A-TB patients were incubated in complete medium (control), Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), or M. tuberculosis plus interleukin (IL)-15 or IL-18 for 24 hr and IFN-γ production by CD3^– CD56⁺ cells was determined by flow cytometry.
