¹Lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMC) were isolated from colonic tissues from SCID mice reconstituted with CD4⁺ T cell subsets as indicated. LPMC (5 × 10⁵ in 1 ml) were stimulated with anti-CD3ɛ (5 µg/ml) and mouse CD80 transfectants (5 × 10⁵/ml). Supernatants were harvested after 48 h of culture and assayed for interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-4 by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Data are pooled from two experiments and expressed as the mean ± s.e.m.
