Hemicellulase-degradation enhanced the antiproliferative effect of A. blazei on some cell lines. Five leukocytic cell lines were cultured with the indicated concentrations of ABH (A), aqueous extract of A. blazei (B) or aqueous extract of A. blazei containing inactivated hemicellulases (C). Tetrazolium salt was added to the cultures after 3 days, and optical density was read. Percent proliferation indicates the proportion relative to cell growth in culture medium only. Data are representative of two separate experiments with similar results. Jurkat (plus), BALL-1 (cross), CCRF-CEM (closed diamond), U937 (closed square) and THP-1 (open circle).
