The effect of macrolides on dendritic cells (DCs) cytokine production. DCs were treated without lipopolysaccharide (LPS), with LPS alone or with LPS and azithromycin (AZM), clarithromycin (CAM) or midecamycin (MDM). The production of interleukin (IL)-10 (a), IL-6 (b), interferon (IFN)-γ (c), IL-12p40 (d) and tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α (e) by DCs were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
