The relative change of alkenes in the cuticular hydrocarbon profiles of new egg-laying workers after orphanage of the colony. At day 40, the sample size decreased to 3 because of the three workers that lost their rank at that time and were therefore excluded. For comparison, the relative amounts for the gamergates (n = 9) that were laying eggs for more than six month were given in the column “gam.” The short-chained alkenes show an inverse trend to the larger alkenes.
