Concentrations of IL-1-α, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-4 cytokines produced by spleen cells ex vivo after isolation from mice challenged with E. chaffeensis grown in ISE6 or DH82 cells (*, P ≤ 0.05; #, P ≤ 0.1). Spleen cell supernatants were also assayed for IFN-γ, IL-2, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, TNF-α, and IL-5, but there were no appreciable amounts of these cytokines at any time point.
