Representative assay for PIA immunoreactivity (icaADBC locus product) or WTA extraction and staining. Six representative S30 mutants corresponding to each category assigned in Table 1 are depicted (WTA/PIA). All immunodot blots show four serial twofold dilutions. Immunoreactivity was scored by digital scans of at least three independent determinations. Wall teichoic acids were extracted, resolved on polyacrylamide gels, and stained with Alcian blue silver.
