Parasite and reticulocyte densities in pbmif-ko-infected mice. The values are means and standard errors for asexual stage and reticulocyte density during infections in experiment 2, obtained by using BALB/c mice (A.1 and A.2) and C57BL/6 mice (B.1 and B.2). For each host strain, five infections were initiated with either wild-type parasites (WT) or one of two independently generated pbmif-ko lines (KO1 and KO2). In both host strains the densities of circulating reticulocytes were significantly lower in infections initiated with wild-type parasites than in infections initiated with pbmif-ko parasites (A.1 and B.1). In contrast, the densities of asexual parasites did not differ significantly in infections initiated with wild-type parasites and infections initiated with pbmif-ko parasites (A.2 and B.2).
