^aThe relative chemotactic response is the mean response to the test compound relative the buffer control for at least three experiments. All test compounds were at 100 mM, except the chitosan dimer, which was at 10 mM. Lower concentrations of the above compounds did not elicit a stronger response (not shown except in Fig. 5). All of the compounds shown except β-alanine and glycine elicited relative chemotactic responses of ≥2 and were considered chemoattractants.
