Direct activation of the apoptotic pathway during brain ageing. Fifty micrograms of cell-free extracts of mouse brain tissue at several stages of maturation, fetus, neonate, young, adult and old were activated by addition of granzyme B. A control experiment in the absence of activator was run under the same conditions. Caspase activation was measured fluorometrically as described in Section 2.3.
