Shedding of endothelial membrane from pulmonary xenografts. Tissues from porcine pulmonary xenografts in baboons and from normal pigs were fixed in 1% glutaraldehyde and 4% formaldehyde embedded in Spurr’s resin and stained with lead citrate. Ultrathin sections were studied by transmission electron microscopy. Shedding of material from the endothelium can be seen in transplanted lungs but not in normal lungs.
