PVA sponges in TSP2-null mice induce excessive fibrosis. PVA sponges were excised en bloc 21 days after implantation and photographed. Sponges recovered from TSP2-null mice (−/−, right) were coated with excess fibrous tissue obscuring the sponge material. On the contrary, less fibrosis was elicited by control sponges and the sponge material was visible (+/+, left).
