Characterization of tissue-infiltrating DCs. cDNA was prepared from temporal arteries that were either noninflamed (negative) or affected by GCA. Gene expression of molecules typically found in tissue DCs was examined by RT-PCR. Quality of the cDNA was assessed by amplifying β-actin transcripts. All arteries from patients with GCA contained sequences specific for CD83 and CCL18. Weak bands for DC-SIGN were found in the minority of samples and CD1a was not detected.
