HMGB1-mediated NF-κB activation requires both RAGE and Mac-1. The activity of NF-κB was measured by ELISA in wt (open bars), LFA-1−/− (filled bars), Mac-1−/− (gray bars), or RAGE−/− (hatched bars) mouse neutrophils that were stimulated in the absence (−) or presence of TNF-α (10 ng/ml) or HMGB1 (20 ng/ml), as indicated.
