Flat mounted corneas of control mice (Ctrl; A) and Tie-1-Cre+/0;Smad5fl/ mice (Tie-1 KO; B), immunofluorescently stained for CD31. A pellet containing basic fibroblast growth factor (circle) was implanted in the cornea and blood vessel growth from the limbal vasculature toward the pellet was recorded after 5 days. No difference was observed between control and mutant mice. Original magnifications, ×50.
