In the case of fibrosis, increased proliferation, migration and matrix synthesis occurs. In the pathogenesis of fistulas, reduced migration of myofibroblasts and synthesis of extracellular matrix is the problem. Epithelial cells try to close the wound area and migrate in the defect.
