Figure 2

Background intensities of scattering/diffraction for (a) a water plug centered in the beam using FC-70 as an oil spacer in a thin glass capillary, (b) a water plug centered in the beam using FC-40 as an oil spacer in a thin glass capillary, (c) a water plug centered in the beam using FC-40 as an oil spacer in a Teflon capillary, and (d) a thaumatin crystal centered in the beam using FC-40 as an oil spacer in a Teflon capillary. Each image with the exception of (d) was thresholded to identical bounds (200, 2000) in CrystalClear (Molecular Structure Corporation). FC-3283 plugs had similar intensity profiles to FC-70.
