Example of a force-extension curve of a heterogeneous DNA duplex. While retracting the cantilever from the surface the polymer spacer and the DNA duplex are set under stress. The elastic behavior of the polymer-DNA duplex can be described with the FJC fit (black dashed line). At a force of 62 pN the double-stranded DNA dissociates and the cantilever drops back into its relaxed state.
