Gibbs free energy of a two-state system under an external force. The model describes the completely bound and the first lengthened state of a repetitive DNA duplex. The potential is tilted due to an externally applied force. This results in a leveling of the energy of the two states, allowing the DNA duplex to fluctuate between the two states in equilibrium.
