Ketones (KB) prevent neuronal injury induced by prolonged exposure to glutamate (GLU). Continuous exposure to GLU (10 μM) for 45 min resulted in the death of 50% of neurons with significant increase in propidium iodide fluorescence. A combination of 1 mM BHB and 1 mM ACA prevented neuronal death. Calibration bar = 10 μm.
