Northern blot of +/+, +/rd, and rd/rd total retinal RNA. The normal GC1 transcript is approximately 9.5 kb in size (Left). The rd/rd transcript is 0.5–1.0 kb shorter than the normal transcript, and the amount of the transcript in predegenerate rd/rd retina is less than 10% of normal levels. Reprobing the blot with the chicken β-actin cDNA probe showed no difference in the amount of total RNA loaded per lane. The positions of RNA standards are shown on the Left.
