The cell numbers in mouse marrow cultures were counted after the cells were stained as shown in Fig. 5. Without the addition of parathyroid hormone (PTH), the cell number for osteoclast-like cells was very small (as shown in the first column from the left). With the addition of PTH (10−7M), the number increased greatly (P < 0.01 as shown by **symbol in the second column from the left). This increase of cell number was significantly inhibited by 5 or 10 min of Ki-exposure (P < 0.05 as indicated by *symbol for the 3rd and 4th columns; n = 5 for each). The difference between 5 and 10 min were not statistically significant. Ki was applied twice during the culture. See text for details.
