*Because the BmA3-GAL4-3xP3-DsRed (193-2 or 52-2) lines contained a UAS-EGFP transgene at an unknown ratio, the resulting progeny of the cross often exhibited EGFP fluorescence in whole bodies, including the eyes. We could not determine whether the EGFP marker of UAS-CBP-3xP3-EGFP was present when the larvae exhibited EGFP fluorescence under these conditions. Therefore, we collected larvae with the following two phenotypes in terms of eye and body fluorescence color. (i) [eye DsRed, body EGFP]: Eyes DsRed-positive and whole body and eyes EGFP-positive. All individuals possessed BmA3-GAL4-3xP3-DsRed and UAS-EGFP. We could not ascertain whether they also possessed Ser1-GAL4-3xP3-DsRed or UAS-CBP-3xP3-EGFP because their fluorescent markers overlapped with those of BmA3-GAL4-3xP3-DsRed and UAS-EGFP, respectively. Because only one insert of the UAS-CBP-3xP3-EGFP gene was present in the UAS-CBP-3xP3-EGFP line (data not shown), the expected proportion of animals harboring UAS-CBP was 50% based on Mendelian inheritance. (ii) [eye DsRed, eye EGFP]: Eyes both DsRed and EGFP-positive. All individuals possessed UAS-CBP-3xP3-EGFP. We could not determine whether they also possessed BmA3-GAL4-3xP3-DsRed and Ser1-GAL4-3xP3-DsRed because their markers overlapped with each other.
