Comparison of the loop II region of pol β and pol λ. Amino acid sequence surrounding and including loop II of mammalian pol β and mammalian pol λ is shown. The loop sequence of pol β is from residues 240–253, and the loop sequence of pol λ is from residues 476–485. The amino acid residues of the pol β loop that were altered in this study are in bold. The amino acids near the beginning and end of the loop that are conserved between pol β and pol λ are italicized and indicated by the two arrows in between the beginning and the end of both sequences.
