Effect of TGF-β₁ on COX-1 and COX-2 mRNA levels in lung fibroblasts. Representative fibroblast cell lines from groups I, II, and III were grown to confluence and incubated with media alone or media containing TGF-β₁ (1 ng/ml) for 6 hours before extraction of total RNA. Hybridized probe was detected by autoradiography and quantitated by densitometric laser scanning. mRNA levels for COX-2 (a) and COX-1 (b) are expressed in arbitrary densitometry units after correcting for levels of 28S RNA.
