Simulation results are illustrated for subdivided populations with L = 10, 20, 50, and 100. In each case, the total population size N_T is kept constant (at 10,000) so that the subpopulation size N (= N_T/L) is altered accordingly. Other parameters are s = 0.01, c = 0.5, and T = 100. Note that for L ≤ 50 the optimal migration rate m_max is almost invariant despite the changes in the subpopulation size N.
