N1-RP1 stimulates microtubule polymerization. N1-RP1 and N2-RP1 recombinant proteins were incubated with purified tubulin at 37°C, and the extent of polymerization into microtubules was measured by absorbance at 340 nm over 60 min at 1 min intervals. The N1-RP1 protein was almost as efficient as the positive control Taxol at promoting microtubule assembly. In contrast, the N2-RP1 protein was much less active. Tubulin alone served as a negative control.
