Binding of fluorescence-labeled LDL-lipid (▴) or OxLDL-lipid (•) microemulsions to resident mouse peritoneal macrophages, measured by flow cytometry. Liposomes were labeled by incorporating 1% DiO (wt/wt). Approximately 1 × 10⁶ macrophages were incubated with microemulsions for 2 hr at 4°C. The mean fluorescence intensity of 10,000 events was measured and plotted against the concentration of the microemulsion added (expressed as μg of fatty acids per ml).
