Kinetics of viremia. Hantavirus plaque assays were performed on serum (A) and whole blood (B) collected from ANDV- and SNV-infected hamsters. The limit of detection was 50 PFU/ml. (C) RNA was isolated from PBMCs, and real-time PCR was performed following cDNA synthesis. Samples were analyzed for the presence of S-segment viral RNA (vRNA). Levels of SNV nucleocapsid did not rise above background levels, indicating that SNV did not productively infect these cells.
