Cells were starved on CF starvation medium for the indicated periods of time. Sporulation frequencies are presented relative to the level of sporulation in DK1622 after 120 h as mean values and standard deviations from four experiments. Spore titers were determined as the numbers of sonication- and heat-resistant CFU (58). The absolute sporulation frequency of DK1622 after 120 h was 4.0%.
