A. Viral DNA was detected in the optic tract at 3 days pi. The mutant (Us9-) and repaired (Us9R) both are transported in the axons; the amount of DNA is quantitatively less in the mutant, however. No viral DNA was detected in uninfected mouse brain. B. Densitometry scan of the viral DNA in the Us9-, Us9R and uninfected host DNA control lanes.
