^aBacteria were counted by flow cytometry by using Syto 24 stain for total bacteria and propidium iodide for dead bacteria. The average total number of bacteria per gram of feces (10¹¹) was 2.28; the standard deviation was 0.58. The average percentage of dead bacteria was 28%; the standard deviation was 5%.
