A, Growth of the salt-sensitive yeast strain (G19), wild-type W303 strain (WT), and G19 transformed with either the empty plasmid (pYES2) or OsKAT1 expression plasmid (OsKAT1). Ten-fold serial dilutions of cell suspensions were spotted onto YPG plates with or without 0.1 m NaCl. Growth was followed for 5 d. B, Growth of the K⁺-uptake-deficient yeast strain (CY162) transformed with the empty plasmid (pYES2), Arabidopsis KAT1 (AtKAT1) expression plasmid, or OsKAT1 expression plasmid. The yeast cells were streaked onto SDG medium containing approximately 7 mm K⁺ (bottom) or 100 mm K⁺ (top). Growth was followed for 5 d.
