Some modifications are similar to previously described biological modifications in prokaryotes (typically in E. coli). Substitutions are supported by the presence of the target residue in other Shewanella strains at the orthologous residue. Hydroxylation of R on SO_0238, although not previous reported, is strongly supported by our data.
