Differential effects of 1,1-DCE (A) and 1,2-cis-DCE (B) degradation on general cellular respiration in mutant strains of P. butanovora. Butane-grown cells were provided 3 mM lactate and 13 μM 1,1-DCE or 10 μM 1,2-cis-DCE. The slopes of tangents drawn to progress curves obtained during the assays were measured at the indicated time points to determine rates of O₂ uptake.
