Integrin α3 (ITGA3) and integrin β4 (ITGB4) show a predominant staining in basal cells. The desmosomal genes desmoplakin I and II (DSP) and plakoglobin (PG) show evident staining of SCC tumour cells, most pronounced in central localised cells of the tumour areas in SCC. For desmocollin 3 (DSC3) strong basal staining was observed in SCC.
