Osmotic water permeability between airspace and capillary compartments in rat lung. (A) Pleural surface fluorescence was recorded in response to indicated changes in perfusate osmolality at indicated temperatures. The airspace was filled with a 290-mOsm solution containing 0.5 mg/ml fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran. (B) Arrhenius plot from which an activation energy of 3.7 kcal/mol was calculated.
