Long term population growth rates in a system in which female butterflies allocate 100 eggs between farmed and wild habitat. The farmed habitat is mostly high in quality, but in 1 out of 10 generations, all larvae are killed by insecticide spraying or early harvesting. The wild habitat is of constant but low quality. The optimal allocation is 80 eggs in the farmed habitat and 20 in the wild habitat. (After ref. 11).
