A set of bar graphs showing the mean densities (grains/μm2, ± SEM) of autoradiographic grains for Klenow-positive, GAD-positive and Klenow-positive, GAD-negative nuclei in normal controls (CON), schizophrenics (SZ), and patients with bipolar disorder (BD). No significant differences were found between diagnoses within cell types (Klenow+/GAD+ or Klenow+/GAD-) in either region. Differences in grain densities, however, between Klenow+/GAD+ cells and Klenow+/GAD- cells were highly significant in both cortical regions (*** p< 0.0001).
