Calculation of the surface area ratios of laminin-positive VM patterns to CD34-positive vessels was performed based on the area of tissue examined by stitching together overlapping confocal stacks as described in the methods section. Because microvascular density is typically calculated in this tumor system in the literature²⁰, ³⁶ on the basis of an area of 0.313 mm², an adjusted calculation is provided only to allow for a comparison with previously these published data.
