Lane a shows dsRNA from bacteriophage Φ2007, which has a deletion in segment M. Lane b shows RNA from Φ2064, which has normal L, an MS chimera picked up from pLM1114, and a normal segment S. Lane c shows RNA from Φ2323, which contains normal L, the MS chimera shown in b, and a deleted segment S that contains no genes and is only 798 bp. Lane d shows RNA from Φ2361, which contains normal L and a chimera of S and M but no normal segment M or S.
