Thrombocytopenia (platelet count <20×109/L in acute cases)
Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia
Neurologic abnormality or complaint
Renal abnormalities
  Proteinuria and microscopic hematuria
  Peak BUN ≤ 0.4 g/L or Cr ≤ 0.03 g/L
Fever ≥ 38.3°C
Microthrombi on tissue biopsy
Exclusion
 Evidence of intravascular coagulation
 Evidence of underlying condition associated with or producing microangiopathic syndrome
 Positive antinuclear antibody, anti-DNA antibody, or LE preparation
 Oliguria or anuria
