^aStrain CC1 was grown on Fe(II) medium. Samples were removed throughout growth, treated with chloroform to kill the cells, supplemented with As(III), shaken at room temperature for 5 min, and frozen until analysis. The pH and the concentrations of soluble As, As(III), and As(V) were determined and expressed as a percentage of the soluble arsenic concentration at the beginning of the experiment.
