Single-round transcription in vitro was carried out as described in Fig. 6, using the indicated promoters (1 pmol each for both core enzyme and promoters). σ⁷⁰ was preincubated for 5 min with a 10-fold molar excess of Rsd before the addition of core enzyme (core/σ⁷⁰ = 1).
