Study of survival of Phe⁺ mutants in starving mixed culture. One milliliter of mixed culture contained 10² cells of P. putida PaW85 Phe⁺ strain carrying mutant plasmid pPPM-CA and 10⁸ cells of P. putida PaW85 Phe⁻ strain, which carried either wild-type plasmid pEST1414 (exp. 1) or vector plasmid pAYC32 (exp. 2). The Phe⁺ colonies were counted on day 2.
