FIG. 3.

Genomic organization of the S. lugdunensis icaADBC locus. A 7.6-kb chromosomal region encompassing the S. lugdunensis icaADBC genes was sequenced from isolates IDRL-2414 and IDRL-2664. An ORF encoding a hypothetical glycosyl hydrolase was found in the position where icaR was expected. The ORF-icaADBC locus was found by PCR to be intact in all S. lugdunensis isolates tested in this work. icaADBC loci of S. epidermidis RP62A (ATCC 35984, GenBank accession number NC_002976), S. aureus NCTC 8325 (GenBank accession number NC_007795), and S. caprae strains 96007 (GenBank accession number AF246926) and 89318 (GenBank accession AF246927) are shown for comparison. Percent amino acid identities of S. lugdunensis genes with each homologue were determined with ClustalW. Slashes on the lipase genes indicate that they are not drawn to the same scale as the rest of the figure.
