After qualification in Bristol in 1957, Guy served in the Royal Navy, mainly in Singapore, before returning to Bristol, where he attained his MRCOG. He joined a medical practice in Guernsey in 1970 as general practitioner-obstetrician, replacing the only other MRCOG on the island. Being dedicated and extremely approachable, he rapidly built up the practice and his specialty, introducing modern gynaecological procedures. He was heavily involved in ultrasound scanning and the design of the new maternity extension, where his photograph is still on display. He performed a lower segment caesarean section under hypnosis. He was active in the local division of the BMA, being treasurer for some years, and he was keen on travel, attending many overseas BMA conferences. On retirement due to ill health, he became devoted to cooking, especially produce from his garden. He suffered from peripheral vascular disease, losing one leg, and he died after surgery to the other leg. He leaves his wife, Mary; four children, one in general practice; and six grandchildren.
Former general practitioner and obstetrician St Martin's, Guernsey (b 14 April 1932; q Bristol 1957; DObst, FRCOG), died from arteriosclerosis, renal failure, and cancer of the prostate on 10 August 2007.
